Working Memory Training For Kids

Working memory – the ability to process, retain, and recall information is a skill that improves with practice. It’s essential for learning new concepts, solving problems, and building confidence in everyday situations. The Shichida program works with children as young as one year old to begin strengthening these skills through fun and engaging working memory training.

Through targeted working memory training, children strengthen the ability to follow multi-step instructions, retain key details, and process information quickly.

We guide our students through three types of memory-building techniques step-by-step. When our students graduate from the Shichida program they have access to a variety of advanced memory-enhancing tools. These memory techniques can successfully be used in school and beyond. We incorporate fun games, activities, stories, songs and flashcards to develop memory skills in children from a young age.

Shichida Memory Development Techniques

Consistent working memory training builds a strong foundation for academic success and everyday problem-solving.

At Shichida, working memory training is not a standalone activity – it is woven into every lesson through targeted games, visualisation exercises, and interactive challenges tailored to each age group.

We teach memory-enhancing techniques through a mix of engaging activities, imaginative stories, interactive games, and catchy songs. These techniques help children improve their memory in a natural, enjoyable way – often without even realising they are learning!

Photographic Memory

Children learn to focus on a complete image, store it in their memory, and reproduce it with precision. This skill is strengthened through exciting visual activities and games.

Mnemonic Memory

We use structured stories and visual imagery to create associations between pieces of information. This technique strengthens neural connections, making it easier for children to store information in long-term memory and retrieve it when needed.

Auditory Memory

Through the repetition of fast-paced audio tracks, children’s brains quickly encode and store large amounts of information. Separately, songs use rhythm and melody to strengthen recall. Both methods are highly effective for boosting auditory memory and supporting long-term retention, and songs are just one of the many powerful educational tools we use in our classes.

What’s So Great About Working Memory For Kids?

Strong working memory skills help children follow multi-step instructions, understand stories and conversations, keep track of ideas while writing, solve problems in real time, and much more.

Build Your Child’s Memory Skills from the Start

Shichida’s working memory training activities improve focus, recall speed, and the ability to connect new information with what is already known. Activities gradually increase in complexity as children grow, ensuring their memory skills continue to develop year after year.

Graduates leave with lifelong strategies they can use in school, sports, and everyday life. Parents also receive practical ideas to continue working memory training at home, reinforcing what is learned in class.

FAQ’s: Working Memory Training

Memory training teaches your brain to retain and recall information more easily. All brains operate differently, and some individuals store and retrieve learned information better than others. Regardless of your child’s memory capabilities or age, practising memory training benefits all children.

Memory training encompasses three key techniques:

Photographic memory: A teacher shows students an image and teaches them how to remember and reproduce it accurately.

Mnemonic memory: Students are encouraged to link information with stories, songs, or images to facilitate easier recall.

Auditory memory: Teachers use high-speed audio during learning. Studies indicate that repetition of this technique supports better and faster encoding of information in our brains.

At Shichida, we facilitate memory training using a variety of stories, games, songs, and more. Children engage in memory training activities that are so enjoyable that they are unaware they are learning in the process.

Some examples of memory activities for kids include using flashcards, recalling and matching pictures, and reciting songs, poems, and word stories. Older kids memorise large numbers by associating them with pictures and stories. They also recite famous poems, stories, and speeches, remember complex colour placements on mandalas, and memorise 500 decimal places of pi using songs.

Begin memory training at age one as it requires more active participation from your child and enables them to grasp the taught concepts. Starting memory training before schooling begins particularly benefits your child, setting them up for success from day one of their school journey.

The Shichida program introduces memory training at an age-appropriate time during the early learning program.

Memory training is one of the best ways you can support your child to thrive academically. During their formative years and schooling, they will be constantly presented with new learning experiences and expectations.

By providing your child with the tools needed to retain and recall information, you are setting them up for success later in life. Better memory can help to reduce exam anxiety as they progress through school and ensure they can remember important information more easily, even when in stressful situations.

Yes! The memory techniques learned in the Shichida program can be applied in school, helping your child improve their ability to retain and recall information quickly and effectively. These skills are valuable for reading, math, and all academic subjects.

While each child progresses at their own pace, most children begin to show improvements in memory recall within a few weeks of starting the program. Consistency and practice lead to more significant results over time.

Yes, the Shichida memory training techniques are designed to be adaptable and can benefit children with a wide range of learning styles and needs. Our approach is gentle, encouraging, and personalized to help all children thrive.
